Salvation
Your enemy, Satan, will tempt you repeatedly by appealing to your self-oriented feelings and desires. You can resist his onslaughts by cooperating with God's plan to renew your mind. Salvation is the first step in this process, and a committed life of obedience to God's word will insure that your mind will be continually renewed to increasing Christ-likeness.
God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life.
God's Love
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16
God's Plan
". . . I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." - John 10:10b
Man is sinful and separated from God.
Man is sinful
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
- Romans 3:23
Man is separated
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 7:23
Jesus Christ is God's only provision for man's sin.
Through Him you can know and experience God's love and plan for your life.
He died in our place
"But God commended His love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8
He arose from the dead
"For I delivered unto you, first of all, that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas then of the twelve: after that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep."
- I Corinthians 15:3-6
Jesus is the only way to God
"Jesus saith unto him. I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." - John 14:6
We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives.
We must receive Jesus Christ
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name."
- John 1:12
We must receive the New Birth
"There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him. Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of the water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. that which is born of the flesh is flesh: and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. the wind bloweth where it listith, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh and wither it goeth -- so is everyone that is born of the spirit." - John 3:1-8
Accept a personal invitation from Jesus Christ
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me." - Revelation 3:20
Experience eternal life in Jesus Christ
"For since by man came death, by man came also resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so Christ shall be made alive." - I Corinthians 3:21-22
Do you know where you are going now? Are you ready to spend eternity in heaven with God the Father? THAT'S GREAT! Say this prayer aloud:
"Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of your Dear Son, Jesus Christ. I admit that I
am a sinner in need of a Savior. Come into my heart today. I confess with my mouth that Jesus
Christ is my Lord. I believe with all my heart that Jesus died for my sins, and I believe that you
raised Jesus from the dead. I turn my back on sin and I accept my place as a Child of God.
I am saved, Amen."
CONGRATULATIONS! You are now a born-again Christian and the angels are rejoicing with
you right now. Because of this great decision that you have made, our desire is to help you
better understand the miracle that just happened to you. We love you and welcome to the
family of God!
Love,
Pastor S.D. Veal Sr. & the Great Big Family of Temple Baptist Church
What does all of this mean, now that you've made this decision? Well,
You've just experienced conversion or simply put, you have had an encounter with the reality of God
and His purpose and responded in personal faith and commitment.
Matthew 13:15; 18:3 | John 12:40 | Luke 22:32
More common expressions of the Christian conversion experience include:
Turned around
Born again
Saved
When I met Christ
I was blind, but now I see
I was once lost, but now I am found
Three Causes of Conversion are:
The sovereign grace and mercy of God.
The unfinished work of Christ on the cross is the basis and foundation of individual conversion.
A conformation and encounter with God.
In genuine conversion one is confronted with the living Christ. Confrontation is not just acceptance of ideas or intellectual assent to the plan of salvation. It involves acceptance of a person and acknowledging that acceptance to him.
Conviction that is the result of the Holy Spirit's witness to the Word of God.
Conviction is a sense of guilt and shame reading to repentance. Conversion must be preceded by a basic understanding of the God's redemptive work in Christ. (Romans 10:17)
The Character of Conversion (New Birth)
Physical Birth - The act or process of bringing forth life
Spiritual Birth: (John Chapter 3) - It is personal and inward in nature
Results in a public and outward change of an inward confession
Causes a change in the mind, emotions, and will
The mind is changed, in that it seeks to know the truth and accept the truth.
The emotions are changed, in that evil is hated and righteousness is loved.
The will is changed, so that it turns away from sin in humble submission to the will of God.
The Condition of Conversion
Faith is trust in Christ and His redemptive sacrifice.
Faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ is a necessary element in the conversion experience.
(Acts 20:21)
Faith is so vital, because without faith it is impossible to please God.
(Hebrews 11:6)
Biblical Examples of the Conversion Experience
Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3)
Jacob's experience with God at Bethel (Genesis 32)
Isaiah (Isaiah 6)
King Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4:37)
Zacchaeus (Luke 19)
Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8)
Nicodemus (John 3)
I must be in great company! But what happens now if I sin, am I still a Christian saved by grace through faith?
The bible tells us in I John 1:9 that "If we confess our sins (to God), He is faithful and just to forgive us (of all) our sins and to cleans us from all unrighteousness."
It is very important for us to deal with sin immediately and choose to follow after God. God's enemy, the devil or Satan will try to make you feel that you are not good enough to deserve God's love, but as a child of God, we have that right to come before Him and ask for forgiveness because the bible says so.
Some resources to help you get started on your journey as a new believer in Christ:
1. Get a bible and read it daily. Start with the gospel of John in the New Testament.
2. Pray daily. Prayer is basically conversations with God. The bible instructs us to begin our prayer similar to this
fashion: "Father God, I come to you in the Name of Jesus . . ."
3. Attend church services on a regular basis. Church attendance is very important to your development in your
walk with Christ.
We encourage you to take advantage of these resources. The Great Big family at Temple want you to learn how to live for God because it is only through Him will you know and experience God's love and plan for your life. We would be honored to agree in prayer with you, whatever your needs may be - our Heavenly Father says that He will supply all of them (Philippians 4:19)
